Position Description: The Childcare Assistant provides on-site child supervision for the children of health or fitness class students at learning centers in North or South Austin. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and delivering educational and enrichment services to vulnerable populations.  Childcare Assistants work Monday-Thursday, with variations to hours, depending on when classes are scheduled.  Most fitness and education classes are in the evening; typical hours are Monday through Thursday 6:15pm-7:45pm and Friday mornings 8:45am - 10:15am.

Primary Duties/ Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate and promote punctuality
  • Maintain a safe, interactive, clean environment for several children from various backgrounds, ages 3 years and older
  • Establish and maintain on-going communication with parents during fitness or health education classes
  • Engage with and encourage children to participate in age-appropriate play
  • Actively participate in care and play with children
  • Administer assistance to children when needed
  • Maintain accounting of children in care during shift
  • Foster a warm and welcoming childcare environment
  • Listen to and facilitate parent’s care wishes as much as possible with available resources
  • Direct and timely communication with supervisor


Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent, priority given to applicants with coursework in Early Childhood Education or related field
  • One year experience caring for children inside or outside of the home
  • Reliable means of transportation
  • Passing a background check and fingerprinting

Preferred Requirements
  • CPR/First Aid Certified
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish or Arabic)



Working Conditions
Ability to work in all types of climate atmospheres (hot and cold temperatures) and wet environments, both inside and outside. Must be willing to work evenings.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending. Must be willing and able to lift small children, sit/stand or play for 2 hours at a time.


Compensation
$17/hour
